County Hurling League

Castlemartyr 1-13   Mayfield 0-18

After a challenge game away to Sarsfield’s on the previous Monday, our intermediate hurlers were at home to Mayfield on Sunday in the RED FM League Division 5.
The visitors made the better start racing into a 0-4 to 0-0 early advantage and this proved crucial as Castlemartyr were playing catch up from early on. Reduced to 14 men before the break,  the hosts galvanised their challenge early in the second half with a Mike Kelly goal, after his initial effort came back off the crossbar. However, Mayfield kept their shape and having led by 0-12 to 0-8 at half time they finished the stronger to forge out a 2 points win. Some missed chances proved crucial to the reds hopes of completing a comeback – that said, three top drawer saves from net-minder from Dáire Coughlan prevented the city side from extending their advantage.

Eoghan Martin, Barry Lawton, Darragh Leahy and Jack McGann were amongst the Castlemartyr scorers on a day when Dáire Joyce at midfield and Eoin Ronayne showed up well.

So we travel to Rostellan in two weeks time looking for a change of fortune. Championship is still well off on the horizon and a number of key players will gradually return, but it would be nice to get that first win sooner rather than later.

Team – Dáire Coughlan, Eoin Ronayne, James Lawton, Cathal Martin, Peter Fleming, Jamie Stack, Conor Whyte, Dáire Joyce, Mike Cosgrave, Darragh Leahy, Ciarán Sice, Barry Lawton, Eoghan Martin, Jack McGann, Mike Kelly.
Subs used – Briain O’Tuama and Billy McGann.

Junior Football

Next JFL1 game is this coming Thursday at 6.45pm v Youghal in Castlemartyr, where we will be hoping for a third win on four starts.  Note the change of date from Good Friday, which we mentioned last week.

Junior Hurlers

Our recent game against St Catherine’s in Ballynoe was postponed due to an unplayable pitch. Next up on Easter Monday, April 10th the junior hurlers have their first home match of the campaign as the rearranged clash with near neighbours Killeagh is timed for 6.30pm.

Congratulations Ciarán

Congrats to Ciarán Joyce who is €250 richer after being a winner on night one of the Cork GAA Rebels Bounty Draw which took place last week. Well done Ciarán, hope you keep the winning momentum going for the club and county on and the field.  April takes place at the end of the month.

Lotto Jackpot

The lotto jackpot is now up to €9,850. €25 winners last week were Dee Johnson, Melinda Golden, Marty Fleming (senior), Catherine Downey and Carmel Ni Mhurchú.

Minor Games

Amongst the busy fixture list this week for Kiltha Og are two Under 18 league games – football on Wednesday 5th v Aghada in Dungourney (6.30pm) and on Friday at 6pm hurling versus Carrigaline also in Dungourney.
